Christmas Santa Belt Buckle Cake

Is this not the cutest cake ever?!  I was inspired by Santa's belt buckle.  Delicious red velvet and whipped vanilla buttercream.  OH MY GOODNESS!  It was part of a delicious dessert table made by my other business venture, "Sweet Treats Carousel".  For a look at the complete table, please go to http://sweettreatscarousel.blogspot.com/2012/12/christmas-dessert-table.html

Merry Christmas!

Princess Tiara Cake

I got an order for a princess tiara cake with some "bling-bling" for a sweet birthday girl turning 9.  Is this not the most perfect cake for the occasion?!  Happy birthday Princess Sophia!

Beautiful cake but it's missing something...

Now we have perfection - the tiara has been placed!  :-)

Mickey Mouse Cake

Can I just say this is one of my all time favorite cakes. For starters, I adore Mickey mouse. Reminds me of good times, from childhood to adulthood.  I was inspired to make something different and accomplished it. Mickey is the 1st layer, then Donald, then Goofy and finally the cake is topped off with a Pluto layer. Zebra Pattern Cake

I was given a zebra pattern and told to make whatever I wanted - I LOVE THAT! It lets my creativity run wild and I came up with this lovely zebra pattern cake with matching cake pops. Wild isn't it?!

Party Animal Cake

Who's my toughest client - my daughter! She picked the color scheme, she told me how to tier the cake and layer the flavors and what colors and exact design she wanted. Perhaps  next year I buy her cake from Coldstone and get it done with quickly! Nah, just kidding, I loved every minute of making this special cake for her 10th birthday.

Garden Cake - Nutella Buttercream Goodness

For those that follow my cakes, you will remember the Winnie the Pooh reveal the gender cake I did a while ago. For those that are new here, you can check it out at :

The mommy to be's husband got in touch with me to make her a birthday cake but with some meaning behind it. I was thrilled! He mentioned she loves butterflies and M&M's. We got to work and after some inspiration from the internet, we managed to come up with this design. The butterflies symbolize their growing family as do the 4 ladybugs. The M is the first letter of her name and incorporates the M&M's. And what' the best part? Well, once they cut into it, they found delicious chocolate cake with Nuttella buttercream filling - OH MY GOD, sooooooooooo good. I have to admit, being a Nutella addict, I found myself spooning leftover buttercream out of the bowl after the cake was finished. I had to do a good run to make up for that little pleasure but of boy, it was really worth it!

Close up of the flowers. I love the color blend on these.

Close up of the other side showing the ladybugs and frog.

Final product. I hope the mommy loved her birthday cake as much as I loved making it for her.

Happy Birthday M!

If you haven't tried this product, it is amazingly good.  A hazelnut spread of chocolate heaven. (Don't judge, I love it, I can't help myself!)

The before shot of the Nutella buttercream.

The after shot of the Nutella buttercream. Yes, those are markings of my spoon. After I finished the cake, I found myself going back to the bowl. I eventually had to pour water into the mixing bowl so I wouldn't keep going back. Yes, Nutella is that good!

Cherry Blossom Cake

Sometimes a cake is more than just a delicious cake. This is that type of cake for me. It was made for a woman that loves red and black. Naturally, I thought of cherry blossoms when I was thinking of her. The cake reminds me of her; beautiful, happy and bold.  If you're thinking this was for my mom, you got it right!  Happy Birthday to my mom and my best friend.

LOVE IT!

Pink Ladybug Cake

The first birthday - what a mega milestone!  It's always a very important and special birthday.  It marks that first year and many moms think with love, wow, I made it...  Then you think, this is great!  I was honored to make this birthday cake for a sweet little lovebug girl.  I handmade the ladybug to match the theme (seen below).

Can I just say that kid's birthday cakes are still my absolute favorite thing to make!  I don't see that ever changing!  :-)  Happy birthday little lovebug!

Theme for birthday.

Flower garden baby shower cake.

This latest design was inspired by a web picture sent to me by the client.  It was a bit challenging to get the design from a fondant cake on a buttercream cake but it came out great!  I love the flowers!

The downside was that I was left with leftover buttercream, dulce de leche and ganache, OH MY!!!
Of course, I had started a diet last week...  In case you're wondering, no, my willpower was not strong enough and I had a good helping of ganache for breakfast this morning!  SO YUMMY!!  Don't judge!  :-)

Final cake.

Winnie the Pooh Cake - Reveal the Gender Cake!

I was contacted by an incredibly sweet mom to be for a Winnie the Pooh cake for her upcoming baby shower. She wanted the frosting to taste like honey. I got to work and developed a new buttercream recipe with honey just for her. It is delicious! I'll be using it again.

She didn't know what the baby was and wanted neutral colors. No problem. A few days later, I got a call back from her and she now knew the gender but wanted to reveal it at the party because none of their friends or family knew. The catch was that she did not want blue or pink cake which is the most common way of revealing the gender of the baby through cake. I started thinking of different ways to do this revealing in a new and exciting way without having to make the cake blue or pink. It came to me one night while I was sitting there thinking - I could make a kite that Winnie was flying and hide blue ribbon inside the kite that she could pull out with another string. I immediately took out fondant and my tools and started to make several test kites that I would try out the next day. I got my beautiful helper (daughter) to test out the kites the next night. IT WORKED! I called the mom to be with the idea and she loved it. I hope she sends me pictures of the moment she pulled the string so I can see the excitement. Until then, here is my sweet girl doing the honors.

This is my daughter holding one of my model kites.

The nervous giggling starts when I tell her to start pulling the string out.

Keep going.

Here is a tiny glimpse of the gender ribbon peeking through.

A little more.

TADAAAAAAAAA!  It's a boy!

Here's the final version of the cake and kite. The kite was placed inside the cake
once the cake was at the baby shower location. Congrats to the sweet mom and
dad (and big sis) awaiting their new baby boy arrival and thank you from the bottom
of my baking heart for letting me make this reveal cake for your family.

80 Birthday Cake

I was contacted to do a number birthday cake.  It would be my first so I was super excited and even happier when I found out it was for someone's mom who was turning 80!  WOW!  That is one happy milestone!  Off I went to create a birthday cake that would match her theme (pictured below).

I love the final look and how happy and colorful it is.  Very fitting for an 80th birthday bash.  Happy birthday to her!  :-)

(Napkin showing the theme for the birthday.)

Nemo Cake

Talk about fun!  I love Nemo and the opportunity to make a Nemo cake finally came my way.  YAY!  The birthday girl was turning two so the cake order was for a simple Nemo cake with Nemo on it because he is her favorite character.  ME TOO!

I spent quite a bit of time creating little Nemo and his home out of fondant but it was worth every minute.  Can you see him peeking out of his sea anemone?  hehehe  I love this cake although as usual, I always feel sad to let my little  handmade buddies go!  Take care little Nemo.  :-)

Spear fishing cake

I received an order for a birthday cake for a spear fishing fan but the client wanted the cake to be very simple.  It was agreed to make the cake buttercream with a few accents in fondant.

Below you see just a few steps in making this cake. The cake was chocolate with chocolate hazelnut (nutella) filling - YUM!

I melted the marshmallows and butter to make rice crispies treats.
I added the rice crispies once it was all melted.

I laid it all flat on a glass dish and let it cool.

My next step was to mold the boat out of rice crispies treats.

I covered the boat with fondant and made all my other fondant pieces
including a shark fin, diving flag, octopus, crab and a few other details.

Voila - the final cake!

Superhero Cake/Superboy Cake Followup

I finally got the pictures of what the cake looked like at the party.  YAY!  The topper had to wait to make it to the party since it was handmade out of fondant and quite heavy.  I didn't want to run the risk of it falling or ruining the cake top.  Wait no more, here it is!  Before and after pictures.

Here you can catch a glimpse of the topper next to the invitation.

The cake on it's final superhero themed table with topper on top.  LOVE IT!

Can you see my gorgeous little camouflaged Ironman at bottom center?
Happy birthday little man!
