Nemo Cake

Talk about fun!  I love Nemo and the opportunity to make a Nemo cake finally came my way.  YAY!  The birthday girl was turning two so the cake order was for a simple Nemo cake with Nemo on it because he is her favorite character.  ME TOO!

I spent quite a bit of time creating little Nemo and his home out of fondant but it was worth every minute.  Can you see him peeking out of his sea anemone?  hehehe  I love this cake although as usual, I always feel sad to let my little  handmade buddies go!  Take care little Nemo.  :-)

Spear fishing cake

I received an order for a birthday cake for a spear fishing fan but the client wanted the cake to be very simple.  It was agreed to make the cake buttercream with a few accents in fondant.

Below you see just a few steps in making this cake. The cake was chocolate with chocolate hazelnut (nutella) filling - YUM!

I melted the marshmallows and butter to make rice crispies treats.
I added the rice crispies once it was all melted.

I laid it all flat on a glass dish and let it cool.

My next step was to mold the boat out of rice crispies treats.

I covered the boat with fondant and made all my other fondant pieces
including a shark fin, diving flag, octopus, crab and a few other details.

Voila - the final cake!

Superhero Cake/Superboy Cake Followup

I finally got the pictures of what the cake looked like at the party.  YAY!  The topper had to wait to make it to the party since it was handmade out of fondant and quite heavy.  I didn't want to run the risk of it falling or ruining the cake top.  Wait no more, here it is!  Before and after pictures.

Here you can catch a glimpse of the topper next to the invitation.

The cake on it's final superhero themed table with topper on top.  LOVE IT!

Can you see my gorgeous little camouflaged Ironman at bottom center?
Happy birthday little man!

Superhero Cake - Superboy Cake

One of my best friends picked me to make her son's superhero cake.  I had so much fun!  I've said it so many times, I loooooooooooooooooooooooooooove birthday cakes!  This was no exception.  Check out the invitation cards and the cake with the topper.  Way cool for our special little guy.  The topper will find his final resting spot on top of the cake but he has to wait until the party.  Final pics to follow later.

Elegant Minnie Mouse Cake

I got an order for a Minnie Mouse cake and thought, "YAY, MINNIE".  Everyone that knows me knows that my favorite cakes to make are the ones for kid's birthdays.  I went out to deliver under the threat of a nasty rain storm so I bargained with Mother Nature and begged her to hold back until I took out the cake and the ears (on a separate plate) so I could put Minnie together at the delivery address.  Mother Nature was kind enough to keep the storm brewing and waited until I walked out of the house to begin the rain.  At that point, it was all goooooooooooooood!

Here are Minnie's ears and bow waiting to dry...

The final cake.  Not quite perfect just yet.

Here is the cake all set up at the client's house ready to go.
After all, it's not Minnie if the bow and ears are missing!

Super Mario Brothers Cake

I was totally psyched to get started on this cake.  The day the client asked me to do it, I was screaming "YES" in my head as I had always wanted to make a Mario cake but hadn't had the opportunity.

I began working on the Mario topper a few days before the delivery date to allow enough time for him to dry.  The fondant figures always take a few days drying time.  The actual decorating of the cake took me several hours but it was sooooooooooooo worth it.  I love the final outcome, a round about game come to cake life.  My favorite picture - the one with the birthday boy smiling over the cake!  Happy Birthday to Ricky and thanks to his fantastic mom for picking me to make this yummy treat!  Oreo cake pops added more sweetness to this delicious chocolate and dulce de leche cake.  YUM!
